What’s your name?
My name is Deidra Rideaux a.k.a Dee or Dede
What do you watch to get a good laugh?
My nephew. He’s funnier than any show on TV.. 24 hours a day. I never know what he will do or say. TV has nothing on Jaylen.
What’s your thoughts on the facebook craze?
I love facebook. I’ve built new relationships & been able to locate people that I haven’t seen or heard from in years. It’s an outlet to express yourself.
Do you think some people put too much personal information on facebook?
Umm.. I guess it’s up to the individual. Personally, I wouldn’t do that but, to each its own.
On Inspiration
Who inspires you?
My mother inspires me. She’s beautiful, extremely intelligent woman, with a platinum heart. She’s a very positive person & is a true definition of “ride or die” for her children.
What are some of your dreams?
I want to be a better mother. My baby is growing so fast in this society, so parenting is very hard. You have to work on being there & knowing what’s going on. We have to know who their peers are, who they talk to, what they’re doing on the internet… it’s a huge job. I’ve dreamed of opening a beauty salon for many, many years now. I pray God blesses me, with my own salon, one day.
On Style
What do you rely on to look or feel great?
I’m not dressed unless I have earrings on, like the big hoops. I’ve always worn big earrings
What’s your favorite brand?
Ummm.. I have more than one. Chanel is a favorite. I love LV, Gucci, Prada, D&G, Dior, Ed Hardy, YSL, BCBG.
Favorite places to shop?
(Lol) It’s a recession. I shop at whoever store that fits in my budget. I’m older now so labels don’t really matter to me. There was a time when I thought I had to have a ‘brand’ on.
3 Must haves for your wardrobe…
BLING! Everything must bling. (Accessories)Thigh high boots & ripped jeans
What’s your favorite fashion color?
Black. Black is a must have! At one time 95% of my closet was black.
Any Fashion Tips?
(Lol) My grandmother has always been sassy. When we were little she gave us tips to live by.. “Girl that skirt is too long. Shorten that thing. You need to show your big legs & whenever you stand up you put your chest out, head up & suck your stomach in“. . She made sure every Friday I was in the beauty shop because my mom had to work. She doesn’t believe in 'bad hair days' or 'I didn't feel like getting dressed' moments. It’s cute how she approaches us about beauty these days. She'll say, "You tired baby? Mama see your hair is a mess so I know that means you're tired” (lmao & smh).
On Family
What are you thankful for?
My family is the most important thing to me. We grow together, cry together, fight together, support each other 100%, pray together….. In all things, we do it together. I have a daughter that is SO AMAZING & talented. She’s beautiful & extremely smart/intelligent. She’s a warrior, she WILL NOT LOSE because she’s determined to succeed in all things When ever things get ruff she’s my reason to get through it. My mother… (Speechless). I wish I knew where to start. All my life she’s been my mother, father, sister, counselor, my life line, my hero.. She’s my EVERYTHING. I’m lost without her. I’m very blessed to have such great siblings (one sister & one brother). I’m the oldest, then my brother Trey& Pandy’s the baby. My brother is ‘the man’ to us. If you need it, he’s making sure we have it. He’s ALWAYS there when we need him. If you looked at the term “I got you”, you would see him there-TREY. My little sister is the pure definition of fearless. She’s a leader who doesn’t succumb to peer pressure. She’s low key, very focused, & she’s inspiration to anyone that knows her. Although she’s young, she’s unstoppable, uncontrollable.. She’s managed to live in multiple states, in major cities (Bronx, Miami…) & she knew no one there. I could never pull that off. My grandparents are ‘80ish’ but that doesn’t slow them down & they’re always there we it comes to family. My grandmother is the head of the family, we walk to her beat. Her heart is so AMAZING & I know God picked her to be my angel. She protective, concerned, determined, demanding, helpful & loving. I’m so blessed that God picked me to be her granddaughter.
So you & your family are extremely close. Is there ever any drama?
On course but that means anything. That happens in all families. My family is big & we have various personalities. My nephew, Jaylen, will be 2 this November. Since Jaylen’s birth we’re even more bonded. My grandmother raised us under the concept that ‘It Take A Village to Raise a Child’. For example, my brother works a lot & has 2 kids (NaNa & Jaylen) so on the weekend my Uncle Albert & my Aunt Cynthia help with ‘the village’. When my daughter was younger, I had the same support. it’s a blessing that our children are staggered in age. My daughter is 11 & Jaylen is 2 so ‘the village’ had a chance to rest for a few years.
On Talk Show & Blogging
Why a talk show? Why do you have a passion for blogging?
Three words... SOCIAL CHANGE & ENTERTAINMENT. My blog & my show will be real, raw and relevant for today (2010) . Blogging is a platform from which you can observe the world, question why things are just so & propose alternatives. Good blogs analyze, speculate, place current events in the context of our lives, and show us where we are and where we might go.
